MrNorwalee was born in the rural village of Ban Phoukham, Borlikhane District, Borlikhamxay Province, Laos. He married at the age of 25 and is now the father of three children. His family owns a small farm where they grow rice and cassava, which provides their main source of livelihood.

In 1992, while hunting in the forest, Norwalee stepped on an unexploded ordnance (UXO), causing a devastating explosion. He sustained severe injuries, and despite medical treatment, his right leg had to be amputated to prevent a life-threatening infection.

For many years after the accident, Norwalee relied on a homemade leg that he built himself. Although it allowed him to walk and continue working on his farm, it was uncomfortable, difficult to use, and significantly limited his mobility. At the time, he was unaware that rehabilitation services and professionally fitted prosthetic limbs were available in Vientiane.

Eventually, Norwalee learned about these services and began receiving rehabilitation support. Since then, and as of June 2026, he has received a total of six prosthetic legs, replacing them as they wore out over time through regular use. His prosthesis has become an essential part of his daily life, enabling him to work on his farm, care for his family, and maintain his independence.

Whenever his prosthetic leg becomes worn or damaged, Norwalee returns to the rehabilitation centre for assessment and a replacement prosthesis. This ongoing support allows him to remain active, continue providing for his family, and live an independent and productive life despite the lasting effects of his injury.

Mr. Norwalee received the six prosthetic legs in 2026 and the last one was on 30 March 2002.

 Now, Mr.Norwalee is moving freely and can go black to work again. .
